We just received word that the team has made it back from their visit to the fishing village of Point Sable. They are currently in the Port city of Ansa A Galets, preparing to travel back up the mountain to the village of Boucan La Marre. The trip to Point Sable was “the best ever”, it only took 1.5 hours, the water was smooth and the team didn’t even get wet! Once in Point Sable they made their way through the village to greet everyone and tell them about our prayers for them during Hurricane Matthew. The village is located in a riverbed so, needless to say, it is very susceptible to flooding. Most of the houses/huts in the village were destroyed when Hurricane Matthew’s flood waters poured into the village and it is only God’s grace that spared the village of a cholera outbreak considering those flood waters were highly contaminated with the feces of the animals in the area along with human feces from the outhouses. The people received our team warmly and expressed their gratitude for all of our prayers during that difficult time and for our continued prayers. They had a wonderful evening of fellowship during a special worship service where Alfonso preached with Pastor Pierre interpreting. After spending the night in Point Sable, the team bid farewell to the people this morning and headed back. Unfortunately the sea was not as kind to them as it had been the previous morning. The water was extremely rough and the trip took 3 hours which included a stopover on the Ti Gonave which is a little island off of the big island. This “layover” was necessary because the choppy waters made it too dangerous for the small boat to continue. Praise God they made it back safely and we thank you all for your prayers!
Health wise, our team seems to have fared pretty will so far but one hiccup that did come up over the weekend was a wide spread stomach bug that affected many of the women of the church. Because it only seemed to hit the women we are assuming it was probably from something they ate during the Women’s Conference. Through Pastor Pierre, the women joked with Alfonso that “his words flushed all the sin from their bodies” in the form of, well…. Let’s just say many trips to the bathroom J
Alfonso has finished preaching for this trip and is preparing to meet with the church board tonight and the school children and teachers in Boucan La Marre tomorrow. Please pray that he may have encouraging words for them. Our teachers are faithful servants and the financial difficulties are hitting them especially hard. We are seeking God as to how we can help ease some of this burden. Also, please pray for one of our Haitian brothers, a man named Abaki who is currently ill with malaria. His wife is also pregnant and experiencing difficulties with the pregnancy.
Also, please make note of the fact that we are planning to have a “final conference call” that will be available to anyone who would like attend. Our team will discuss details of the trip and be able to answer questions that you may have. We have not set a date for this call yet but it will be prior to the July 4th holiday. Please check back for the details and feel free to invite others to join in learn more about the trip and hear about all that God did through you support and prayers!
Please check back for our next update and please continue to pray as the trip is not over yet. Thank you!
