Day 2 of our Women’s Conference kicked off on Saturday morning with breakfast followed by small group presentation of the responses to the previous day’s “homework” assignments. Each group selected a spokesperson to present their group’s responses to the large group. The format worked well and the ladies were very willing to share their hearts.
Following the “homework” session Alfonso taught on the subject of “Women in the Family”. His text came from Ephesians 5 and I Corinthians 6 & 7. The focus was on Submitting to God’s authority and leaving sin in order to be useful for God’s purposes. After lunch Alfonso really dug into I Corinthians chapter 7, specifically about not being quick to marry and also, for those who are married, how to deal with an absent husband. This topic is extremely relevant to our churches as many of the men in our villages have left their families to find work. Some are in other parts of Haiti, but many have left the country altogether. As a result, the sins of fornication and adultery are prevalent and the Holy Spirit decided to use this conference to address this issue head-on. This topic led to some wonderful questions and a great deal of practical discussion. The team reported that the discussion was still going strong heading into the late afternoon hours but they decided that they needed to wrap things up as most of the women would be traveling home and if they were going to make it before dark they were going to need to head out. So everyone said their goodbyes and many promised to return for next year’s conference.
This conference was as much a blessing for our team as it was to the ladies who attended it. God was truly at work and we ask for you continued prayers that the ladies would shine brightly for the Lord as they return to the challenges of their homes and communities.
We would also like to ask that you pray for the traveling grace of our team as they begin to make preparations for their travel back to the mainland and the U.S. There is currently a great deal of unrest in the capitol city of Port a Prince. Many things are closed or not operational and the team is praying that Mission Aviation Fellowship is still operational for their flight to the mainland on Wednesday morning. When Pastor Pierre traveled from the island to Port a Prince last week, to meet our team at the airport, there was only one boat running from the island to the mainland so he had to pay an exorbitant price. Once on the mainland, there were no buses running from Carriest (the city where the passenger boats to/from LaGonave dock) to Port a Prince so he had to catch 8 different motorcycles to get into the city. The demonstrators in Port a Prince are trying to shut the country down to force the President out. This causes major disruptions across the country, even on LaGonave.
As always, thank you so much for you interest, prayers and support!
