On Monday the team headed back down the Mountain to the port city of Anse a Galets. They knew the truck had not been properly repaired on Thursday so they decided it would be wise to get it taken care of before Wednesday, when car trouble could cause the team to miss their flight back to the U.S. Because there is virtually no cell signal in Boucan La Marre, the team used their time in Anse a Galets to contact family and send pictures and voice memo updates about the conference. After getting the truck taken care of, they headed back up the mountain to prepare for RTPI’s annual meeting with the teachers and administrators at the school in Boucan La Marre. This meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, is always challenging for Alfonso because it is difficult to see and hear about all of the financial challenges our teachers face both personally and professionally. Our teachers are such a huge blessing to our community and we and continually call on the Lord to provide the resources to help us make their work easier but the financial situation in Haiti is so dire that it often seems like we are climbing up a never ending mountain. But God has proved Himself faithful time and time again and we KNOW He will continue to do so. This is the hope that Alfonso always takes into our annual meeting. After all, this is God’s work so it’s up to us to put in the effort and it’s up to Him to provide!
Following Alfonso’s meeting with the teachers, the team spent the rest of Tuesday visiting with some of the people in the village. They also had a chance to make special presentations to both Madame Mykal (whose husband came to the Lord during the Sunday evening service) for her faithfulness in the church and to some of our school teachers/staff.
Wednesday morning, it was up early to begin the journey back to the U.S. Pastor Pierre traveled to Port a Prince with the team to look for a new freezer to replace the one at his house that is no long functioning. Of all the improvements we have seen in the village over the years, one of the ones that us the most joy is the addition of solar panels that allow Madame Carmelle (Pastor Pierre’s wife) to enjoy somewhat modern appliances like a freezer. Simple things that we take for granted like a stove, a freezer and a kitchen sink are luxuries in our village and they make Madame Carmelle’s life just a little easier as she labors in her love for Christ and His people. We are praying that Pierre is able to find a freezer and that he is able to find a way to get it back to Ansa a Galets and up the mountain in one piece.
Thankfully, the team, along with Pastor Pierre, was able to make it to Port a Prince without any issues. Mission Aviation Fellowship picked them up on time and Johnson, the taxi driver that we’ve used for the last several years, was waiting to take them to the airport when they arrived. The demonstrators were mostly quiet as far as they could tell but the airport was heavily guarded. The team’s flights back to Miami, and then on to Tampa were both smooth and they arrived back in Tampa late Wednesday evening.
Please check back in over the coming days, as we will be posting more pictures, video and audio from the trip and as always, we thank you so much for your interest, prayers, and support!
